It is expected that people will emphasize the well-being of family members over their own passions because the Latin community is so important to individuality. Mainly for those in the lower category, these close-knit communities may provide surveillance and assist. In times of needed, home members are frequently asked to contribute money or offer to use their home as a house.

There is a lot of emphasis on traditions and rigid interpersonal standards, but the good aspects of the Latin family are also frequently highlighted. For instance, machismo, or the notion that men have more specialist than girls, is prevalent and can be harmful to health by encouraging excessive drinking and engaging in sexual risk-taking.

Most Latinos prioritize their families, and daughters are taught from a younger age that they must adhere to a strict system of conventional ideals. They are expected to look after their mothers and grandmothers in certain and treat them like house elders. This is referred to as respeto and is a fundamental component of Latina family tradition.

In fact, seven out of ten Spanish-dominant youth think that family is more important than friends and that family members ‘ needs come before their own needs ( familism ). When a woman’s personal needs conflict with those of their home, this can be challenging to understand. Some Latinx individuals learn to establish healthy boundaries through counseling and find ways to express their demands to overcome this.
